Binge With The Best Of ‘Em: Netflix releases binge report

Netflix
Netflix releases report on the way people binge watch shows.

The blessing and curse of Netflix is you can watch as many episodes of your favourite show as you want without having to wait for the next episode to air. For many people this leads to surrendering all self-restraint and boring through an entire season of House of Cards in a week, or ripping through the whole series of Arrested Development in a weekend. For the very first time, Netflix has released a binge report showing how people consume their favourite shows.

To devour or savour: how do you watch?

According to the Netflix Binge Scale when people watch a new series for the very first time they will complete the first season in just one week, watching for an average of two hours a day. Once people find a series they like, TV shows get either “devoured” or “savoured.” When people devour a season they will usually complete it within four days! Shows like The Walking Dead and Sense8 are among the top “devoured” shows on Netflix right now.

Other shows are “savoured,” which means they’re still very popular but people like to stretch them out over a little longer time. These shows are still watched over a relatively short period of time, with people averaging about six days to complete a season of a savoured show like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt or House of Cards.

How About You?

The great things about shows on Netflix is not having to wait a week between episodes. The bad part is you will end up watching a whole season of something like Orange is the New Black in just a few days, then you have to wait a whole year for more episodes. What was the last show you binged on Netflix?
