What is the best side for a hotdog?

When it comes to burgers, there is no better buddy than a plate of fries, but hotdogs…that’s another story! One a gorgeous summer weekend what’s your go-to for a great side to accompany your ‘dog? Here are some popular options to get you thinking.

Beans

Nothing fancy here. When you’ve got your hotdogs on the BBQ (or better yet the bonfire) nothing hits the spot like a can of beans. Empty them into a pot and leave them on the oven or over the fire to have a quick, simple, side that is virtually impossible to mess up!

Potato Salad

Don’t like the idea of prepping something in the kitchen at the same time as you’re out BBQ your hotdogs trying to get those scorch marks just right? No problem! Whip up a potato salad a few hours before your guests arrive, leave it in the fridge and pull it out when it’s time to chow down. No special serving or plating options required and you’ll likely have leftovers to enjoy the next day!

Kraft Dinner

This one is not as easy to pull of when camping for the weekend, but if we’re talking BBQ, there is NO better companion to a hotdog than KD. This SHOULD be done as a team cooking effort though because you don’t want to compromise the texture and warmth of your KD. In those crucial moments after you drain the water and add the butter, water, and cheese powder leave a trusted friend or spouse outside to make sure those hotdogs don’t get (too) burned.

Caesar Salad

Need something light? Caesar salad has minimal ingredients and will leave you with room to slide down, two, three, or even four BBQ hotdogs.

Perogies

This is a great Manitoba side option. You’ll get a belly full of nice, hearty, potato and cheddar plus you can slater those little dumplings in butter, bacon, and sour cream to help them slide down. You do NOT want this as your side if you’re planning on doing anything other than lounging around and being lazy following your hotdog meal.

Corn On The Cob

Two foods that just scream summer time are BBQ hotdogs and corn on the cob, so why not put them together in the same meal? Boil up those ears of corn and just leave them floating in the water until your hotdogs are cooked to perfection. This way your side stays nice and warm with minimal work or risk of ruining your main course hotdogs.
