That’s a JOB? Strangest careers you didn’t know existed!

What was your first job? Maybe you worked at a restaurant, or a store, or did manual labour. What job did you always want when you were a kid? Did you plan to grow up to be a cowboy, or astronaut, or treasure hunter? While some of those career paths may seem far-fetched you just never know what you can make a career out of. From “snake milkers” to, dog breath smeller, and even mermaid, there are some very unusual ways to make a living that you didn’t learn about in school!

You can make a living doing what?

Squire

In Medieval times there were knights. They rode around in shining armour, the battled for their kings and queens, and they were super cool. But behind every good night is a great squire! And this is a job you can still do today!

I recently met a squire from Alberta. He lived and worked at a ranch that specialized in training horses for jousting. His job was to help all the nights get into and out of their armour, wrangle their horses, and set up their lances. He gets to travel the world going to different jousting events as a squire!

Keeper Of The Cup

Love hockey but don’t’ have the skills to make it to the Stanley Cup finals? Become a “Keeper of the Cup” and you’ll travel with NHL’s most coveted trophy 24/7!

Every player who wins the Stanley Cup finals gets 24 hours with the cup. To ensure the cup stays safe there is a very small group of people who make a career of travelling with the cup as it visits each player and travels the world.

Each keeper of the cup goes through 24 pairs of white gloves per season as the Cup is toured around away from the Hockey Hall of Fame over the span of 100 days each year. It’s been to the top of mountains, the bottom of swimming pools and everywhere in between! Imagine the stories you could tell!

Professional Bridesmaid

Worried your crew isn’t as rambunctious enough to make sure your bachelorette party is a blast, but on the ball enough to handle anything that comes up on the big day? Never fear, you can hire a professional bridesmaid!

There is a service called Bridesmaid for Hire which employs people to be the world’s greatest bridesmaids. They offer many packages so if you work for them you could do simple things like helping a bride plan her big day, or helping the maid of honour pull together her speech or be available in-person the day of the wedding. You can also put the other bridesmaids through Boot Camp to ensure they’re giving the bride all the support she needs throughout the planning and wedding!

What about you?
