It’s the 30th anniversary of Dirty Dancing this year. If you were a kid in the 1980’s, there’s a very good chance that you spent every slumber party and dance class wishing you were Baby.

To celebrate, Hollywood decided a great way to reintroduce the classic romance to a whole new generation is to recreate it, with Abigail Breslin taking on Jennifer Grey’s Baby Houseman and newcomer Colt Prattes as Johnny Castle.

The film also costars Debra Messing (Marjorie Houseman), Bruce Greenwood (Dr. Jake Houseman), Nicole Scherzinger (Penny Rivera), Sarah Hyland (Lisa Houseman), Tony Roberts (Max Kellerman), Katey Sagal (Vivian Pressman), Billy Dee Williams(Tito) and J. Quinton Johnson (Marco).

Look, spaghetti arms…

The TV remake will still tell the story from the original 1987 romantic drama but according to the People exclusive, will also include “what happens to Baby and Johnny after the summer, Jake and Marjorie Houseman’s relationship, and Lisa’s life goals — while also tackling social topics in the country at that time, such as race and women’s rights.”

Interesting. If anyone saw the stage version, there were definitely some of that included there, but we don’t know if this will be in the same vein.

The three-hour filmed TV event will also feature updated versions of your favourite songs from the original and that signature line…
