Shawn Mendes, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter, has sent fans into a frenzy with the promise of his long-awaited return to the stage. In a candid Instagram post on Thursday (March 7), Mendes revealed his plans to make a comeback with fresh music in hand, confirming the imminent release of a new album.

Accompanying a stripped-back black-and-white photo of himself strumming a guitar outdoors – shirtless – Mendes expressed his excitement about returning to live performances. “It’s been a really long time since I last played live,” he wrote. “I’m so excited to share that I’ll be headlining Rock In Rio on Sept 22nd. I’ve missed being on stage and seeing you all in person so much!”

According to Mendes’s post, the “Stitches” hitmaker will take the stage on Sept. 22 at the Rock In Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro, joining a star-studded lineup including Travis Scott, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, and Katy Perry.

But that’s not all. Mendes also revealed that fans can anticipate a new album on the horizon. “I’ve also been working on a new album and I can’t wait to play these new songs live for you,” he added. “See you there. eu te amo!!!!”

This exciting news comes nearly two years after Mendes made the difficult decision to cancel his 2022 world tour due to struggles with his mental health. However, he has continued to gift fans with a few singles, including “What the Hell Are We Dying For?” and “Witness Me” with Jacob Collier, Stormzy, and Kirk Franklin, keeping the anticipation for his comeback at an all-time high.
